I have been in IMVU for about 10 years and I've had a few hiatuses, a few years in total. Each time I have come back after a very long break I have been a little nervous about still belonging in IMVU or not, about still being in the same wavelength with the rest of the user base.
But each time I've discovered that it's actually not a problem at all. I joined IMVU when I was 20 something and the user age range I saw (with ages being divided in 13-17 and 18+ even back then) was about 18-35. Now I'm 30 something and the age range is very commonly 18-50 in both GA and AP. Seeing age verified people older than 50 is not impossible, either. This is what I see while browsing the public rooms.
Seems like now I'm not only a IMVU veteran, but also part of it's maturing user base so I haven't fallen off the ride it seems, but sit in comfortably. While IMVU is often portrayed in quite a childish way in a media such as YouTube, the rest of the user base has zero to little tolerance to such a behavior.
What do you think this sort of development means, and has the staff taken any notice on how it affects the market, demands and overall atmosphere?

It also seems like since the number of daily users online pretty much doubled in a short time, there are also many younger users around.
Though not all of them always realize how it is with old virtual worlds. I have gotten messages of me being old, yes, but I usually try to reason with them. If they doesn't work, I will use the block button but sometimes reasoning works and they apologize.

Ive noted most of the new imvu users dont even know theres a 3d chat client O_O they all enter via the phone app. That talks not only of how the user base is renewed, but also the technology they use.

For me the mobile gaming is a backlash to the era where game ads look epic but the games themselves are quite primitive or simplistic. Sure you can just grab your device and play somewhere, but it's a sharp contrast to what the gaming desktops and consoles are capable of these days, the epic ads matching the realistic in game footage. In comparison the mobile games feel second hand - unless you're into the augmented reality of course.
That's why I don't much care about the Next or mobile app. I prefer the beefier hardware.

Their user count is up - because they don't count by user name but by app being used. In other words - if you are in client and using Next you count twice. Sign on with your phone? three times.
Their user stats have never been honest.
Now let's chat about users being mature.
I have been on the site for 12 years. I am 56.
I haven't taken a hiatus.
I use the client for creating, chatting, photo stream.
I use the webpage catalog to shop.
I use NEXT to embellish photo stream and to collect my daily spin to win crap.
And Discussions - I use to annoy staff. and myself sometimes.
