Ratings and comments in social media

Ratings seem to be a big thing in YouTube, and some people complain when you cannot thumb a video up or down. However, I post my videos in two sites, which are YouTube and Dailymotion.

In Dailymotion you can only view videos like you do in YouTube, you cannot comment them and there's no setting to enable it. You can like a video with a heart, yes, but that only adds the video to a playlist of likes. In other words, if you comment the videos there, comment elsewhere.

But it's actually quite relaxing that Dailymotion view and like only without down voting... how so? Because down votes are criticism, yet anything but the constructive kind. They won't help me to improve my videos in any way for the lack of discussion. I can only guess.

I also don't trust a part of YouTube community that much - they may down vote "just because" for trolling, because they are not the directed audience that you're making the videos for (even the YouTube famous know this) or because of other reasons completely unrelated to your videos such as harassment (I've had it happening there so I had to block someone).

I never beg for likes or subscriptions in my videos, because I'm not planning to become a huge YouTuber partner. I'm not into their local popularity race - how else I'm supposed to describe it? I have a directed audience, was the subject in trending or not.

That's why I wonder if from now on I should disable ratings in my future videos on YouTube. Yet some people in the YouTube community would complain about such decision. My experience still spells otherwise.

Sure, opening commenting tools for all may bring more fame, but groups and circles of friends just feel more comfortable. But I'm using this comparison as an example, so talk about any social media comments and ratings.

I've got a yt in which there is a fan who dislikes every single video of myself or the celebrity it's about .
This is not only on my channel but every other similar fan channel of which there are a good number .
At first I was like why are you even watching and it was somewhat annoying as it makes no sense where
if you are there to view the vids and are an obvious fan of those videos that you'd go out of your way to
thumbs down em . Its just how some people are for whatsoever reason , while it hurts views in those
senses of recommended similar videos I just stopped being annoyed . I know who it is and could block
them but they'd probably go out of the way to make a new account to do the same thing and thumbs
down every video .

As for yt the directions they took in changes mostly not being customizable and the next fb level of
users they lost out but its part of the game they play in cahoots with other social media websites .
Anyways my thoughts along yours is not to block or disable anything just let it be what it is as you
will learn . . things about others and yourself . Mostly to leave it as is though to just not to get caught
up in the games those who have problems will play .

These days I just let people comment - if they will comment something nasty or spam, I can just delete it but mostly the comments are OK.

Actually in YouTube there's no way to deny the others from rating your videos. You can only make the vote results private so only you can see them. I actually prefer it that way.

Sorry, but this really irks me. Sure, they are trolls, but I've never seen a case of them being able to bring down an actually good video. I know you might not mean it that way, but the people that usually complaining about "trolls" and "haters" deserve the criticism but would rather blame it on haters. I've actually seen the opposite be far more damaging - hardcore fans upvoting and supporting horrible content. Like in the case of DaddyOFive, a YouTuber with massive support from his fans for videos where he abused his children that have now been taken away from him.

As a viewer, I personally find the downvote button to be just as important as the upvote button. I should not have to comment every time I see a video I dislike, so many don't read the comments anyways and downvoting is a quick easy way to express my opinion on a video. Taking away the ability to downvote something isn't going to make me comment, I'll just move on without giving any feedback. Yes, it's not constructive criticism, but the upvotes aren't constructive either, you don't know why they exactly liked your video, was it the content, or the tits. Without the downvote button, you'll lose a lot of potential negative feedback from people that just don't have time to comment on every video they watch, so you might see a lot of upvotes, but it doesn't mean much without the dislike ratio. Which will give you a false sense of your content. You have to remember, there is a lot of content on YouTube that does deserve the critique.

In many sites, downvoting also serves as a tool to hide negative or hateful content from the majority of viewers. So I personally find it necessary and needed for many reasons.

I don't see using down vote button as the priority in such a case, but rather the flag button. It's an issue for the staff to solve. Down voting alone won't help in getting rid of the offensive content, the regular community can only do so much.

The start of my post is old anyway - I found out that I can only make my video votes private, but I'll settle with that along with making comments automatic.

And also, my stance that I don't make these videos for YouTube community in particular still stands. It's just one point and outlet of my network - I am not aiming to have a big "YouTuber" reputation or the like.

Or maybe the reason is far simpler: I'm just having an internet fatigue.

Problem is, someone being an ass or making terrible content does not qualify as someone breaking the site rules. Doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to dislike them. In some cases, such as copyright issues, I'm not the one allowed to flag the video anyways, only the creator of the original content is able to take them down.
