Patreon
By now I've seen a number of YouTubers, somewhat successful artists (even my favorite ones) and 3D are modelers referring to their Patreon profile.
It's basically a fundraiser site for artists. It may just be for a donation pool to support them in making their art, or the artist may offer in special tutorials about their techniques or some other exclusive material in return, depending on the amount donated. Their donators are mainly called "patrons".
What do you think of Patreon, and do you have it? When do you think it's the wisest point to use it?

Re: Patreon
I've seen some youtube channel hosts use it but this is the first time I've visited the page .
To me it always seems going through third parties for their gain that something is off .
Then again nowadays you virtually have to use a second party site to get the funds .
Also to unite the donating types with the artists in one place isn't such a bad idea , to add
I'm sure it is searchable and has many various forms of self promotion . In most cases there
will always be equal good and bad .
I do not have one but I've wanted to start begging for funding to get myself help .
Given time I probably will check into this and if all seems legit give it a go . At
that point and if it works at all I will review my notes here . It is just hard for
me to beg ( so to speak ) . . Even though I help others with lessons and donations ,
I guess my pride gets in the way .
When to use anything is as soon as possible . The sooner you get into it and work out
the fine tuning points the better . Let us know how it works for you if indeed you do it .

Re: Patreon
It's a trusted site as far as I'm aware, and it's rather a trend these days in the web for various people (rescue organizations, educators, entertainers, artists) to rely on the financial goodwill or gratitude of their fans in the internet.
I haven't gotten to this road of asking some personally, but I have given a few donations because I've supported some people who educate about nature and environment, and help the wild population of animals to thrive while they do so. I trust them, because they film their work regularly, sometimes in a form of entertainment.
But the choice is yours on who you want to trust if you want to donate, anywhere.

Re: Patreon
All of the ones I've personally viewed are more "subscription"-based over one time giving-based (such at gofundme.com).
I don't know if that is a user toggle or if that is how it is.

Re: Patreon
Seems to be a toggle in Patreon. Monthly, or per creation.Extinction wrote: ↑Tue May 02, 2017 4:05 amAll of the ones I've personally viewed are more "subscription"-based over one time giving-based (such at gofundme.com).

I can see some of it's users listing their patrons such as him.

Re: Patreon
I took a look at that uy, and even his is subscription-based.

When you look at his rewards, he has varying levels; starting at 1$ and jumping to 25$; but his is by a weekly basis.
So it's not 1$ a month, it's 4$ a month, etc.

Re: Patreon
Patron itself is a trusted service.
A lot of the popular podcasts I listen to, gaming and artist streamers I watch use it as a primary way to fund their work. Many have it set up so you get bonus content if you become a patron. Its pretty much become the status quo in podcast and gaming worlds so I wouldn't feel shy about using it if you think it work work for you.
As for trusting all those using it, its always a buyer beware situation so when deciding to become a patron of someone always use common sense.

Re: Patreon
I was just wondering if meshing for IMVU or SL would be reason enough to publish a Patreon page? Or should I rather refer to something else because meshing already earns me money?
I mean, 3D meshing, photorealistic digital art, music... there's a lot of miscellaneous things of creation that I do in different sides of the web. I'm a creation addict.

Re: Patreon
Well... I think any reason is good enough, but unless you're someone who is pretty big and noteable, people aren't going to support you unless you're giving them something in return.
In my experience, especially with a lot of artist I watch in my freetime, they don't get a lot of support when they only offer sneak-peeks and such. It's only when people are actually getting something (i.e free art) is when their ears perk and they get interested.
